Hotels in ViennaVienna is the beautifully cultural city that is famous for is role in the lives of some of the most talented musicians and artists of recent history. The Austrian capital, this wonderfully chic centre combines the modernity of Paris or London with the elegant style of St Petersburg or Rome. A deeply cultural city, Vienna is defined by the magnificent buildings that litter its streets. Museums, art gallery’s, opera houses and theatres are as common as coffee shops, suggesting a historical link with the arts. And it is so, that this Austrian city has acted as the launching pad for some of the worlds artistic visionaries over the past few centuries. Vienna is a simply stunning city exuding class at every juncture. The neon lights of Starbucks and McDonalds give way to quaint little coffee taverns and rustic wine bars. The city itself radiates a desire to keep true to its natural roots, which is affirmed by the abundance of greenery and fauna often unwelcome inside a thriving capital city. In stark contrast to its neighbouring districts, Vienna is rich in beautiful parks and fields to disappear away to on a bright day. Students and young people can often be seen convening in these coveted areas, either reading a book or kicking around a football. Vienna owes much of its international acclaim to sons and daughters that it has produced over the years. The works of legendary musicians such as Wolfgang Mozart and Johann Strauss are known the world over, stamping the name of Vienna well and truly on the map. Mozart was not born in the fair city, that marvel came further down the road in Salzburg, however it was where he composed arguably his greatest works and became his final resting place in 1791. To this day, the Viennese philharmonic orchestra (among many others I might add) attempt to recreate the genius of his work for thousands of paying guests. The city did not have long to wait for the emergence of a successor to Mozart, as 1825 saw the birth of famous composer Johann Strauss. Strauss grew up in the early 19th century as the son of a famous composer, whom detested the idea that his offspring would follow him down the uncertain path of which he had made his fortune. However, despite this damning appraisal of the music industry, Strauss fed the hungry musician in him, quickly becoming even more reputable than his ageing father. By the time he died he had established himself as one of the most revered composers in the German-speaking world, transforming the Waltz into the premier evening dance of the current era. This affiliation with classical music greatness is mirrored in the abundance of buildings designed to further motivate that passion. The Burgtheater and The Volkstheater Wien are both breathtaking examples of modern architecture, which stuns even further upon entry. Shows tend to be sparsely scheduled and tickets are likely to sell out as fast as they are printed, so the hope of catching a live concert or opera may have to remain as wishful thinking. If you are staying in one of the many Vienna hotels that lie within the city, it is almost certain that they will have either a contact number or directions to the venue, if you are insistent on trying your luck.
